Dr. Shirley Cason Reed
Dr. Shirley Cason Reed is the beloved leader of the “misbehavin’ missionaries” of the AME Church, that paved the way for the civil rights movement in our country, alongside Martin Luther King, Jr. As the International President of the Women’s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Dr. Reed has worked tirelessly as a champion of human rights in the US and Africa for over 30 years. She also paved the way for Girl Be Heard’s first national tour to Dallas, TX (where our girls performed their show Trafficked about the 38-billion-dollar a yearsex trafficking industry).
Dr. Reed is beloved by congregants and countless young women at Girl Be Heard, whom she has supported all these years. As the International President of Women’s Missionary Society of the AME Church and the President of the Board of Trustees of the Women’s Missionary Society Foundation, Dr. Reed’s vision and humility inspires us all. Dr. Reed is also on the Boards of the Church World Services, Bread for the World, and National Council of Negro Women, the mother to 6 children and grandmother of 11, and author of a missionary handbook that has been used internationally, “Missions in Action.”
