“I found that by investing in myself as an Egyptian female artist and activist I was investing in the world around me.”
I am a nineteen-year-old New Yorker from Chelsea, Manhattan. My passions lie in putting poetry to beats, pirouettes to melodies and young women on the stage. Girl Be Heard taught me to value introspection through creative writing. In doing so, I found that by investing in myself as an Egyptian female artist and activist I was investing in the world around me. After joining Girl Be Heard in January 2012 I worked as a playwright and supporting actor in “Trafficked”, as part of the Planet Connections Theater Festivity. I was nominated for the PCTF Outstanding Supporting Actor award, and continued on to work with Girl Be Heard as a songwriter, rapper, actor, writer and choreographer for both the Estrogenius Festival and the International Fringe Festival. I have since retreated to the suburbs of Massachusetts (“And now for something completely different!”) to pursue my love for environmental conservation, urban politics, anthropology and classical Islamic political thought at Brandeis University.
