“Now I have a whole new community of friends at Girl Be Heard who love me for exactly who I am.”
I am originally from the Ivory Coast and speak both French and Maningo. I have lived my whole life in Harlem where I have encountered peer pressure and bullying. Girl Be Heard has given me a safe space to talk about very personal issues that I have struggled with. No one judges you. In my community, teens and preteens are often afraid their friends will hate them if they say no. Now I have a whole new family of friends at Girl Be Heard who love me for exactly who I am.
One global issue that is important to me is women’s equality. Women in the US are different from those around the world. In many parts of the world, a woman who voices her opinion can get killed with no punishment to the murderer. Since Girl Be Heard is theatre of girls, we can put ourselves in their shoes and theatrically bring awareness to women’s inequality around the world. We need to speak out.
