“I did not have the confidence to let people hear my writing until I joined Girl Be Heard. I love my Girl Be Heard family; they are like the sisters I never had.”

I am a young rapper, born and raised in the housing projects in Brooklyn. I am the only child to a single mother. I developed a strong love for writing as a teenager to express my “jumbled up emotions.” However, I did not have the confidence to let people hear my writing until I joined Girl Be Heard in 2011. Because of their encouragement I decided to take my writing to the next level and began writing rap songs. Girl Be Heard gave me the platform to perform my songs.  Also, GBH submitted my photo for a film competition, and I was picked to represent the USA in an Australian documentary film called I Am a Girl being release in 2013.  The film follows me as I make my first rap single (being released in 2013). Girl Be Heard helped me break out my shyness and made me more aware of feminist issues.  I have met very important people with the organization. I love my Girl Be Heard family; they are like the sisters I never had. I will always be a part of Girl Be Heard.
