Ariana Maria Herbert is a freelance Programme Coordinator, Writer, and Teaching Artist. Insatiably curious, Ariana upholds the necessity of spaces for tenderness and truth, for observation and interrogation; spaces for cultural preservation. She is committed to the exploration of themes such as Education, Childhood, Inclusion, Gender and Heritage and holds a BA (Hons) in Communication Studies and a Minor in Literatures in English from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine with a special focus in Educational Linguistics, Business and Communication Technology and Cinema and Gender. During her 4+ years at the Bocas Lit Fest, Ariana worked at Trinidad and Tobago’s national literary festival as the Children’s Programme Coordinator and Programme and Prize Administration Assistant. As a member of The 2 Cents Movement for the last 5 years, she has provided communications consultancy, led a pilot anti-extremism after-school programme, worked as a Teaching Artist on gender-based violence programming, and curated performances for International Women's Week 2018 while serving as the interim Artistic Director. A past finalist of Trinidad and Tobago's First Citizens National Poetry Slam, Ariana has judged local slams and performed both locally in Trinidad and Tobago and internationally in parts of the UK. Pro-inclusion, her current goal is to make arts spaces more inclusive for the deaf community. The 25 year old believes in the potency of edutainment and is invested in a career in inclusive education management and communication for development.
