November 19, 2019 Our new Executive Director on “Why I Celebrate”

Studio Simpatico

Dear GBH Family,

It is my privilege and honor to helm Girl Be Heard as the new Executive Director. In one short month, I’ve been blown away by the power of our community–our dynamic program participants, tireless staff, and YOU, our deeply committed and generous supporters.

We have so much to celebrate as we reflect on all the amazing things that you have helped us accomplish. With your support, we’ve grown our programming to 13 after-school and community based sites. We put on an annual Mainstage show and 60+ community performances that reach over 8,000 audience members a year. We’ve amplified the voices and stories of hundreds of girls, young women, and gender-expansive youth — in their own words.

Your support is igniting a wave of powerful leaders, activists, and artists who will change the narrative, rewrite the rules, and make a stronger future for us all.

This is #WhyICelebrate.

Join me on Wednesday, November 13th, for Girl Be Heard’s annual Gala as we celebrate taking Girl Be Heard to new heights in the coming years. This year, we have formed a special partnership with Youth INC, who will be hosting a joint Gala at the Grand Hyatt, along with 9 other youth serving organizations. This allows for us to use 100% of the funds that we raise through the gala for our work.

Come witness how our work fits into the larger movement to champion youth in New York City. And feast, drink, and dance with me as we celebrate Girl Be Heard and raise support to launch us into a new era, reaching more youth in bigger and bolder ways.

Warmly,

Chiwoniso Kaitano
Executive Director, Girl Be Heard
