November 6, 2019 Greetings from Harvard

Studio Simpatico

Hello GBH Family!

My name is Jordan, and I’m a Girl Be Heard Program Participant. Today, I ask you to support Girl Be Heard, whose programming provided me with life-changing opportunities.

In 2017, I got involved with Girl Be Heard through the Sunday Workshop Program in the Bronx. Since then, I’ve performed for the cast of Black Panther, the United Nations, New York City Council, and thousands of others at the DR2 Theater and March for Our Lives in Washington D.C. Girl Be Heard’s performance opportunities are unmatched–my Admissions Officer at Harvard University even cited them as an influential factor in my acceptance.

Girl Be Heard taught me how to share my story in an impactful way. Through Sunday Workshops I learned the various ways activism can take shape and the value of sharing my story. As a 2018 Mainstage Performer, I learned foundational skills in writing and performance that developed my public speaking skills and confidence. Most importantly, Girl Be Heard taught me that I can take steps to change the world, even as a 17-year-old girl from the Bronx. Without this program, I wouldn’t be the person I am today: a confident, well-spoken, and powerful artist and activist.

This is #WhyICelebrate. On Wednesday, November 13th, Girl Be Heard will hold our annual Gala. Please support Girl Be Heard’s incredible work by donating to our Gala Campaign to help us reach our goal, or buy a ticket to attend. 100% of the funds raised through the gala will go toward our work.

Warmly,

Jordan Sanchez,
Girl Be Heard Active Performer and Youth Advisory Council Member

P.S. My big wish is for all youth in NYC to grow into their voice and learn to use it like I did. Your support will help us do that.
