Dear Friends,
As a Girl Be Heard Board Member, former program participant, and advocate for girls and young women, I’m writing to invite you to join me on Wednesday, November 13th, for Girl Be Heard’s annual Gala as we celebrate Girl Be Heard’s mission and programming. This year, we have a special partnership with Youth INC, who will be hosting a joint Gala at the Grand Hyatt, along with 9 other youth serving organizations. This allows for us to use 100% of the funds we raise through the gala for our work.
Girl Be Heard allowed me to build a network of other young people and have a space to discuss our experiences. Together, we elevated our narratives. Through research, advocacy, and performance, we tackled issues that directly impacted us, including gender-based violence, human trafficking, education inequity, and mass incarceration. Social justice activism, human rights work, and public service made their way into, and remained at the core of my academic, professional, and co-curricular endeavors. I now serve on the Board of Directors to give back and ensure that participants have a seat at the table as we continue to show the necessity and power of the work we do.
This is #WhyICelebrate. Please join me at the gala, or donate to support Girl Be Heard during our critical transition year.
Warmly,
Jael Charles
Board Member, Girl Be Heard
